Editors Letter

Just last week, my oldest son casually mentioned that he only has 19 days of school left. Nineteen days! Part of me immediately felt a small jolt of anxiety, realizing that very soon, both of my children will be home full-time for the summer. Entertaining two energetic kids for weeks on end is no small feat, and as any parent knows, summer break requires almost as much planning and coordination as the school year itself.

VIProfile: Benny Smith

Radio, music and community have always been a part of Benny Smith’s life. His grandfather, father and mother performed on gospel radio shows on WGRV in Greeneville, Tennessee. And he started listening to his hometown station and others in upper East Tennessee at an early age. During the day he’d keep up with life locally, but at night he’d turn the dial and get connected to faraway cities like Chicago, Nashville and Fort Wayne.

Editors Letter

I recently returned from a spring break trip with my husband and kids, where we explored a city in the Midwest. Traveling is always an adventure, filled with new sights and experiences. I spent a lot of time researching how my family would fill our days, what sites we would visit and which restaurants we would enjoy. While I love the thrill of discovering a new city, this trip reminded me there really is no place like home.

KNOXVILLE HABITAT’S SPORTING CLAYS TOURNAMENT RAISES RECORD $120,000

Knoxville Habitat for Humanity raised a record-breaking $120,000 at its 10th Annual Sporting Clays Tournament, held March 20–21 at Iron Mountain Sporting Clays in Kodak. This year marked the event’s first-ever two-day format, with 58 teams competing to support Knoxville Habitat’s Veterans program, which provides affordable homeownership opportunities and critical home repairs for veterans and their families in Knox County.
